The Muletones are an old-time stringband, headquartered along the sparsely populated line between Hudspeth County, TX, and Otero County, NM. Formed in 2008, we offer up a mix of fiddle tunes from Appalachian and other traditions, folk songs of indeterminate origin, as well as early country and bluegrass selections rendered in old-time stringband fashion.
There are three of us: two fiddlers, a clawhammer banjo player, a cellist, an acoustic guitar picker, and two singers. Often, a bassist makes us four. Over the last several years we’ve played for outdoor festivals, indoor festivals, contra and square dances too many to count, political rallies (sans endorsements), weddings, and all manner of private parties. From the Davis Mountains of Texas to the banks of Lake Michigan, we have played wine bars, brew pubs, coffee shops, bookstores, back porches, front porches, national parks, national monuments, state parks, community centers, and more.
